Asheville Women's Tennis Sweeps Big South Conference Weekly Awards

FULL BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis has swept the Big South Conference weekly awards for the second time this season, announced by the league today (Wednesday, Mar. 27). Senior Linge Steenkamp has been named Player of the Week, while Alexis Nyborg has been named Freshman of the Week.
Asheville extended its current win streak to three with a 4-2 win at Western Carolina on Tuesday (Mar. 19) and a 4-3 win over preseason favorite Charleston Southern on Sunday (Mar. 24).Â
Steenkamp picked up a 6-1 win with Ari Siegel at No. 1 doubles, before winning 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles at Western Carolina. She went on to a 7-6 (8-6) win with Ari Siegel to clinch the doubles point against Charleston Southern, before winning 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.
This is Steenkamp's third career Player of the Week honor. The Bloemfontein, South Africa native is a health and wellness promotion major.
Nyborg dropped a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 decision at No. 3 singles against Western Carolina, before winning the clincher at Charleston Southern 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.
This is Nyborg's third career Freshman of the Week honor. The Moreland Hills, Ohio native is a double major in computer science and mathematics.
The Bulldogs (12-3, 3-0 Big South Conference) return to action next Saturday (Apr. 6) at Radford in Big South Conference action. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
