Baseball Drops Midweek Contest to Western Carolina

Western Carolina jumped out to a 7-0 lead through four and a half innings, before Asheville got on the board with a three-run homer to right from Robbie Burnett, his eighth of the season with Canon Pierce and Kohl Abrams to get back within four. Western Carolina tacked on three more runs in the seventh, while Asheville plated its final two runs of the game in the home half of the seventh. Cameron Johnson drew a walk to score Abrams, before Burnett scored on a sacrifice fly to left from Michael Groves. Western Carolina would score one in the eighth and two in the ninth to bring the game to its final score.
Abrams, Burnett, Dylan Bacot, Groves, Coleman McGinnis and Pierce each had hits in the game for Asheville, while Abrams and Burnett each scored twice and Pierce also scored once. Burnett drove home three runs in the game, while Johnson and Groves each also drove in one run. Nick Bruno got the start for the Bulldogs on the bump, firing two scoreless innings scattering two hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Nic Melton (0-1) took the loss on the bump, allowing one run on one hit with one walk in two innings. Isaac Gonzales and Jacob Williams combined to finish the fifth inning, before Brett Johnson fired the sixth and seventh allowing three runs on three hits with one strikeout. Sam Thompson, Bryce Fisher, Cal Barna and Delaney Powell teamed up to finish off the innings for Asheville in the game.
