Track and Field Completes 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville track and field team returned to UNC Charlotte on Saturday for the final day of the 49er Classic. Three podiums were secured, and six top-ten finishes were recorded. 

The top performance from Asheville was in the men's 4x100m relay, where the squad clinched a heat win and second-place finish overall with a collective time of 41.09. The squad included DaMarr Harvey, Jalen Anderson, Zac Weas, and Braelin June. 

The women's 4x100m relay team of Elyse Myles, Francesca Cergol, Murielle Jeanite, and Chaniya Owens clocked a time of 49.34 to finish 11th. 

In the women's 800m, Amanda Orban finished 26th at 2:25.68, followed by Maddie Hamuka, who finished 38th at 2:30.68. On the men's side of the 800m, Jaheem O'Hara finished  27th at 1:57.40. O'Hara was joined by John Ramirez (50th, 2:01.66) and Preston Core (64th, 2:04.73). 

In the women's 200m, Francesca Cergol led Asheville with her time of 25.61 (25th), Elyse Myles finished in 49th (26.38), Chaniya Owens finished in 53rd (26.48) and Murielle Jeanite finished in  86th (28.40). For the men, Braelin June finished in a time of 22.70 (42nd), and Isaac Wright finished in 22.74 (46th). 

Alyx Beausoleil finished 10th in the women's 3000m at 11:20.10, and Hanna Guyton finished 15th at 11:47.61. In the men's 3000m, it was a freshman takeover for the Bulldogs, with Nate Sullivan clocking a time of 9:11.55 (11th), Jonas Roach finishing in 9:17.07 (14th), and Tyler Niloff crossing the line in 9:25.03 (21st). 

The men's and women's 4x800m teams claimed third-place finishes, with the men running 7:56.41 and the women running 9:30.54. The men's relay consisted of Alex Haines, Brock Newsome, Lance Surles, and Brandon Kalasnik. The women's relay featured Zoe Bos, Ella Moore, Emily Leo, and Emma Kennett. 

In the 4x400m relays, the women finished 13th (4:18.53), and the men finished 9th (3:22.53). The women's team included Amanda Orban, Ella Moore, Emily Leo, and Emma Kennett, and the men's team included Braelin June, Adam Graham, Isaac Wright, and Jaheem O'Hara. 

On the field, Brianna Moore placed seventh in the women's javelin with her throw of 39.47 meters. She was joined by Christina Jones, who threw a distance of 32.74 meters to put her in 19th. 

In the women's high jump, Lee Kania cleared a height of 1.37 meters to finish in 15th place. In the women's shot put, Raina Jackson led with a distance of 13.19m (14th), followed by Jaelyn Arnold (34th, 11.11m) and Renae Younce (43rd, 10.14m). Eli Oescgher represented Asheville in the men's pole vault. 

The Bulldogs will stay close to home next weekend (Mar. 22-23) as they compete in the Montreat Invitational.
