Asheville Sweeps Big South Conference Women's Tennis Weekly Awards

FULL BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis has swept the Big South Conference Women's Tennis weekly awards, announced by the league today (Wednesday, Mar. 13). Linge Steenkamp is the Player of the Week, while Alexis Nyborg is the Freshman of the Week.
Asheville beat North Carolina Central on Monday (Mar. 4) 5-2, Gardner-Webb 6-1 on Thursday (Mar. 7) and lost to Wofford 4-3 on Sunday (Mar. 10).Â
Steenkamp teamed up with Ari Siegel for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles before dropping a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 1 singles against NC Central. She then posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles against Gardner-Webb. She again teamed up with Siegel for a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles before winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles against Wofford.
This is Steenkamp's second career Player of the Week honor. The Bloemfontein, South Africa native is a health and wellness promotion major.
Nyborg posted a 3-0 record in singles play at No. 3 on the week. 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles against North Carolina Central and a 7-6 (5-0), 6-4 win at No. 3 singles against Gardner-Webb, before finishing off the week with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 No. 3 singles against Wofford.
This is Nyborg's second career Freshman of the Week honor. The Moreland Hills, Ohio native is a double major in computer science and mathematics.
The Bulldogs (9-3, 1-0 Big South Conference) return to the courts on Saturday (Mar. 16) to host Longwood in Big South Conference action. First serve is set for 10:00 a.m. from the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
