Women's Basketball Falls at Presbyterian Wednesday Night

CLINTON, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball fell at Presbyterian Wednesday night (Feb. 14) in Big South Conference action by a score of 59-42.

The teams traded scores and the lead throughout the first 10 minutes, as Presbyterian led just 13-10 after one quarter.

Presbyterian built a lead up to as many as six in the first few minutes of the second quarter, before the Bulldogs countered with a run to tie the game at 20 with under five minutes to play in the frame. Presbyterian quickly rebuilt its lead up to seven, before Asheville again responded with a run to cut the deficit to 27-26 at the break.

A cold-shooting third quarter ultimately hurt Asheville, as Presbyterian outscored the Bulldogs 18-2 in the frame. Each team scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to bring the game to its final score.

Asheville shot 31.3 percent (15-48) from the field, just 11.1 percent (2-18) from long range and 71.4 percent (10-14) from the foul line in the game. Asheville outscored Presbyterian 6-2 on fastbreaks, while also scoring 15 points off turnovers, 14 points in the paint, nine points off second chances and two points off the bench in the game. Mallory Bruce led all scorers on the night with 25 points, her third 20-plus-point effort on the season and in the last five games. Abigail Wilson added seven points, while Jamaya Blanks and Jaila Lee each had four. Trinity Fields also added two points in the game. Asheville out-rebounded Presbyterian 34-33 in the game, out-rebounding their opponent for the 13th time this season. Asheville was paced by nine boards from Blanks, while Wilson also had five. Bruce and Lee each had four rebounds in the game, while Nycerra Minnis also contributed three and Faith Adams and Fields each had two. Adams led the Bulldogs with two assists in the game, while Lee and Dakota McCaughan each had one. Blanks led the team with three steals in the game, while Fields tied her career-high with two and Wilson also had one. Wilson also posted both of Asheville's blocks in the game.

The Bulldogs return home to Kimmel Arena on Saturday (Feb. 17) for Homecoming against Charleston Southern. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m., with video, live stats and audio available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
