Bulldogs Earn First Win of the Lewis Era in 98-23 Win over Warren Wilson

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Tynesha Lewis earned her first win as the head coach of UNC Asheville Women's Basketball on Wednesday (Dec. 4) in a 98-23 win over Warren Wilson inside Kimmel Arena. The point total marks the fewest points Asheville had allowed since a 79-25 win over Converse to open the 2022-23 season back on Nov. 7, 2022. It was also the most points scored for the Bulldogs since a 100-36 win over Warren Wilson in the Education Day game back on Dec. 1, 2021.
 
The Bulldogs scored the most points in a quarter this season, holding Warren Wilson to just one made free throw as Asheville led 37-1 after 10 minutes. It marked the first time Asheville had scored at least 30 points in a quarter since scoring 31 points the first quarter of an 89-40 win over Warren Wilson back on Nov. 30, 2022.
 
Asheville held Warren Wilson to 10 points in the second quarter, scoring 19 points for a 56-11 halftime lead.
 
Asheville would go on to win the third quarter 22-9 to further increase their lead, taking a 78-20 lead to the fourth.
 
The Bulldogs would cap off the first win of the season winning the fourth quarter 20-3 to bring the game to its final score.
 
Asheville shot a season-high 53.6 percent (37-69) from the field in the game, just 17.6 percent (3-17) from long range and 70 percent (21-30) marking season-highs in both free throws made and free throws attempted. Asheville outscored Warren Wilson 38-3 off turnovers, 58-8 in the paint, 15-4 on second chances, 25-0 on fast breaks and 49-6 off the bench in the game. Five Bulldogs scored in double figures in the game paced by a career-high 16 points from Sydney Burris on a career-best 7-10 shooting, while Taylor Wilkins posted a season-high 15 points in the game and LaImani Simmons added 14 points. Abigail Wilson scored 13 points in the game, while Skylar Bailey notched 10 points in the game. Alana Swift scored nine points in the game, while Jordan Tuff scored eight points and Trinity Barnes and Jazlyn Ware each tallied five points. Dakota McCaughan also added two points in the game. Asheville out-rebounded Warren Wilson 59-26 in the game paced by a career-high 12 boards from Burris to complete her first double-double as a Bulldog and a career-high 12 boards from Ware. Tuff pulled down a career-high seven boards in the game, while Wilson and Simmons each grabbed five rebounds with Wilson moving into 18th all-time on the all-time career rebounding list. Wilkins and Barnes each grabbed four rebounds in the game with Barnes notching a career-high, while McCaughan and Swift each had three rebounds in the game. Bailey also pulled down two rebounds in the game. Swift matched a career-high six assists in the game, while Bailey dished out a career-high four assists. McCaughan and Simmons each had three assists, while Wilson and Ware each had two with Ware notching the first two helpers of her career. Tuff and Barnes each also had one assist in the game. Bailey, Tuff, McCaughan, Burris, Simmons and Swift each had two steals in the game, while Wilkins, Wilson and Barnes each had one steal in the contest with Barnes registering the first of her career. Wilkins, Bailey, Swift and Burris each had one block in the game.
 
The Bulldogs return to Kimmel Arena next Wednesday (Dec. 11) to take on Furman in non-conference action. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m., with video, live stats, audio and tickets available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
