Women's Basketball Falls at North Florida on Saturday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball fell at North Florida on Saturday (Dec. 14) by a score of 73-57.

The teams traded scores throughout the first 10 minutes, as Asheville was one better than North Florida with a 16-15 lead after one quarter.

North Florida responded outscoring Asheville 18-6 in the second quarter for a 33-22 halftime lead.

The teams traded baskets through a fast-paced third quarter that saw North Florida edge Asheville 22-19, taking a 55-41 lead to the fourth.

Asheville held their own in the fourth quarter despite being outscored 18-16 as the game came to its final score.

Asheville was paced by a season-best 16 points from both Taylor Wilkins and Sydney Burris, while LaImani Simmons also contributed 11 points in the game. Abigail Wilson scored six points, while Alana Swift had four and Dakota McCaughan and Jazlyn Ware each scored two. Burris scored her second double-double as a Bulldog with a game-high 10 boards in the contest, while Wilson also had six to bring her career total to 541 and pass Vicki Griffin (1981-85) for 17th place on Asheville's all-time career rebounding list. Simmons and McCaughan each had four rebounds in the game, while Ware pulled in three. Swift also had two rebounds in the game and Wilkins had one. McCaughan dished out a team-high three assists in the game, while Wilson had two and Wilkins, Simmons, Skylar Bailey and Burris each had one in the game. McCaughan paced the Bulldogs with three steals in the game, while Simmons, Wilson and Burris each had one. Burris set a new career-high with two blocks, while McCaughan, Bailey and Ware each had one.
