Bulldogs Clinch Big South Conference Tournament Berth with Shutout Win at Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer clinched its first Big South Conference tournament berth since 2016 with a 1-0 win at Charleston Southern on Tuesday (Oct. 29).

The teams traded offensive chances throughout the first half that included a pair of shots off the crossbar, but the match went to the half scoreless.

Asheville got its lightning strike in the third minute of the second half, off a throw in that began with Azalea Mihailovich connecting with Julia Hüsch. Hüsch blasted a ball into the box to a hard-charging Mercedes McNabb, who headed home her sixth of the season to give the Bulldogs a lead. Asheville was able to create chances and keep the pressure off the back line, while Gracie Murray came up with several saves in the second half as the Bulldogs stormed the field in celebration at the final horn.

Asheville totaled 10 shots in the match, with four shots on goal along with three corner kicks. McNabb and Ava Bjorkman-Tracy each totaled two shots in the match, while Manuela Schreier, Mihailovich, Hüsch, Luca Holzl Tronchoni, Ashley Macfarlane and Reina Herndon each had one shot in the match. Murray made five saves in her second shutout of the season and sixth of her Bulldog career.
