Women's Basketball Battles, but Falls to Presbyterian in Conference Action on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball battled, but fell to Presbyterian in Big South Conference action on Saturday (Jan. 6) inside Kimmel Arena by a score of 55-46.
Presbyterian controlled the first quarter starting the game on an 8-0 run, before the Bulldogs battled to get back within seven with under three minutes to play in the frame. The Blue Hose would take a 19-8 lead to the second, with each team scoring 11 points in the second quarter and Presbyterian leading 30-19 at the break.
Asheville would find an offensive rhythm in the third quarter, winning the frame 13-11. After Presbyterian built its lead to 14 early in the quarter, Asheville would get within as few as seven in the period heading to the fourth down by nine. The teams traded blows early in the fourth quarter, before Presbyterian stretched its lead to 18 part way through the period.
Asheville was able to chip away with a late run to bring the game to its final score.
Asheville shot 33.9 percent (21-62) from the floor, 20.0 percent (3-15) from long range and just 1-3 (33.3 percent) from the foul line in the game. Asheville also out-scored Presbyterian 7-2 on second chances and 36-5 off the bench in the game. McKinley Brooks-Sumpter paced the Bulldogs with 14 points in the game, notching a new career-high in field goal attempts (22) while Abigail Wilson also scored a season-high 11 points to eclipse 500 points in her Asheville career. LaImani Simmons added eight points, while Faith Adams had four in her 125th career game in an Asheville uniform. Jaila Lee, Jamaya Blanks and Millie Brown each had three points in the game, while Wilson led the Bulldogs on the glass with eight boards including five on the offensive end. Blanks pulled down six rebounds in the game, while Brooks-Sumpter and Adams each had two. Lee, Briauna Thompson, Nycerra Minnis and Dakota McCaughan each had one board in the game. Brooks-Sumpter dished out a team-high three assists in the game, while Wilson had two and Blanks, Adams, Brown, Mallory Bruce and Lee each had one. Wilson and Lee each registered two steals in the game, while Blanks and Bruce each had one. Wilson also posted two blocks in the game.
