Women's Basketball Drops Conference Tilt at Radford Wednesday Night

RADFORD, Va. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball dropped its Big South Conference tilt at Radford Wednesday night (Jan. 24) by a score of 59-46.

The teams played a low-scoring first quarter, ending 10 minutes in a 10-10 tie. Radford outscored Asheville 16-8 in the second quarter to take a 26-18 lead to the half.

Asheville responded by winning the third quarter 13-12 to get within seven headed to the fourth quarter, before Radford won the fourth quarter 21-15 to secure the victory.

The Bulldogs shot 23.1 percent (15-65), 17.6 percent (3-17) and were perfect (13-13) from the foul line in the game, going perfect from the stripe as a team for the second time this season (Nov. 12 vs. Tennessee State, 6-6). Asheville also outscored Radford 16-9 off turnovers and 12-11 off the bench in the game. Mallory Bruce led the Bulldogs with a season-high 16 points, while Jaila Lee also had 10. McKinley Brooks-Sumpter added eight points, while Jamaya Blanks chipped in seven. Millie Brown notched three points in the game, while Abigail Wilson also had two points in the game. Brooks-Sumpter pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while Bruce and Nycerra Minnis each grabbed six rebounds in the game with Minnis notching a season-high. Briauna Thompson notched a season-high five boards in the game, while Blanks had four and Lee had three. Brown and Wilson each had two rebounds in the game, while Faith Adams also had one. Lee and Brown each had two assists in the game to lead Asheville, while Brooks-Sumpter and Bruce each had one in the game. Lee led the Bulldogs with a season-high three steals in the game, while Brooks-Sumpter and Bruce each had one. Bruce also posted one block in the game for Asheville.  

The Bulldogs return to the hardwood on Saturday (Jan. 27) at Charleston Southern in Big South Conference action. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m. from Buccaneer Fieldhouse, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
