Women's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Draw with Longwood on Senior Night

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer battled toa 1-1 draw with Longwood on Saturday (Sept. 30) during Senior Night at Greenwood Field.
Asheville would strike first in the early goings, as Kaiya Boyd carried the ball down the far wing before finding space and crossing it into the box. It was Nao Kawasaki who got a touch on it to find the back of the net for her third of the season in the 10th minute to put Asheville ahead 1-0. The teams would battle through the remainder of the first half trading chances, before Asheville took a 1-0 lead to the break.
Asheville would hold strong defensively against Longwood's speed, before Peyton Curney got a touch on a ball played forward to Madison Fitzpatrick, leaving her one-on-one with Asheville keeper Gracie Murray in the 62nd minute. Fitzpatrick's second of the season would ultimately bring the match to its final score, with both teams trading chances in the final 28 minutes.
Asheville totaled nine shots in the match, with five on goal. Taylor Gardner led the Bulldogs with four, while Anna Doane had two and Barrett Eidson, Julia Hüsch and Kawasaki each had one shot in the match. Murray (4-2-3) made seven saves in the match.
The Bulldogs (5-2-4, 1-1-1) return to the pitch on Wednesday (Oct. 4) on the road at Radford. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. from Radford, Va., with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com. Â
