Bulldogs compete at Live in Lou Cross Country Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Isabel Richardson recorded a fifth-place finish for the women, and Adam Hessler ran an 8k personal best on the men's side, to lead the UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country team at the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic Saturday morning.
The men's team finished 14th in the men's 8K gold race with 454 points, while the women's team finished 17th in the women's 5K blue race with 485 points.
Hessler set the pace for the Bulldogs, finishing in 32nd individually with an 8K personal best of 24:19.0. Hessler currently holds the second-fastest 8K time in program history. Freshman Jan Málek made his collegiate debut at the Lou with a 65th-place finish at 24:41.7 and set a new program freshman 8K record that was previously set in 1999 by Chad Pearson at 25:05.
Junior Daniel Hopkins finished 84th with a personal best of 24:53.7, jumping to No. 4 in the Bulldog record book in the men's 8K. Fellow junior Yates Hockaday finished 121st (25:11.4 PR), senior Alex Haines finished in 177th (25:30.9 PR), and junior Andrew Okon finished in 188th (25:35.9 PR). Junior Sam Hulsey finished in 277th (26:20.1), freshman Jonas Roach finished 330th (26:53.9) and senior Brock Newsome finished 347th (27:10.8). A total of 378 runners competed.
Richardson's fifth-place finish came at 18:00.1. She was followed by sophomore Emma Kennett who finished in 60th place (19:07.4), freshman Ella Moore who finished in 111th (19:31.7), sophomore Sophie Lundin finished in 124th (19:36.4). Sophomore Emily Leo finished 219th (20:29.0), sophomore Alyx Beausoleil finished 234th (20:35.4), and freshman Zoe Bos finished 295th (21:11.3). Freshman Hanna Guyton finished 312th (21:28.0), freshman Lauren Sochia finished 335th (21:50.3), and senior Amanda Orban finished 339th (21:57.9). A total of 383 runners competed.
The Bulldogs will return to the course on Saturday, Oct. 14, as they compete in the USC Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C.
