Bulldogs Get Back on Track with 4-1 Win over Presbyterian

09.27.2023 | Women's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer got back on track in Big South Conference play with a 4-1 win over Presbyterian on Wednesday (Sept. 27) at Greenwood Field.

Presbyterian would strike first in the 11th minute, when Lindsey Malyszek scored from Lina-Marie Muller to put the Blue Hose ahead. Asheville responded in the 32nd minute when Kaiya Boyd was taken down in the box setting up a penalty kick. Boyd stashed home her first career penalty kick goal to tie the match. The teams took a 1-1 deadlock to the half.

Asheville would take the lead for good in the 54th minute, on Taylor Gardner's fourth of the season, unassisted after she split a pair of defenders and beat the Presbyterian keeper low right. Asheville would extend its lead just minutes later, when Barrett Eidson and Gardner connected on passes to spring another opportunity for Boyd, who put the ball top shelf from the middle of the box to stretch the lead to 3-1. Gardner's second of the match came in the 67th minute when she hesitated to create space before lofting one on net from about 35 yards out. The ball found the back of the net for Gardner's second of the game, marking the first career multi-goal games for both Boyd and Gardner.

Asheville out-shot Presbyterian 18-6 in the match, including 11-3 in shots on frame. Gardner paced the Bulldogs with six shots in the match, while Eidson had four and Karlee Benz had two. Addie Cooper, Julia Husch, Nao Kawasaki and Daysha Chaney each had one shot in the match. Gracie Murray (4-2-2) recorded two saves between the pipes.

The Bulldogs (5-2-3, 1-1-0) return to the pitch at Greenwood Field on Saturday (Sept. 30) to host Longwood for Senior Night as part of Alumni Weekend. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
