Women's Soccer Drops Conference Opener at USC Upstate Saturday Night

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer dropped its Big South Conference opener Saturday night (Sept. 23) at USC Upstate by a score of 2-1 in the team's first installment of the Ingles I-26 Rivalry.
The teams played a scoreless first half, before Asheville would finally break through in the 59th minute. The ice would be broken on an USC Upstate own goal, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. USC Upstate would tie the match in the 83rd minute with a goal from Audrey Baer assisted by Margret Edda Bjarnadottir, before Bjarnadottir scored a penalty kick goal in the 90th minute to put the Spartans ahead for good.
Julia Hüsch led the way with a career-high two shots for Asheville, while Barrett Eidson, Taylor Gardner and Ava Bjorkman-Tracy each had one shot in the match. Gracie Murray (3-2-2) notched a career-high 12 saves in the match.
Asheville (4-2-3, 0-1-0) returns home on Wednesday (Sept. 27) to host Presbyterian in Big South Conference action for a White Out. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com. Â
