Volleyball Preps for a Home-and-Home with Furman

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team preps for a home-and-home with Furman this week. Asheville will play at Furman on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and the Paladins will come to the Justice Center on Friday at 6 p.m. Both matches are scheduled to air on ESPN+.

Last Time Out – Asheville swept Maryland Eastern Shore in three sets on Saturday (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) at the Justice Center. With that victory, the Bulldogs improved to 3-1 on the 2023 campaign.
Best Start Since – With the 3-1 start to the 2023 campaign, the Bulldogs are off to their best four-match start to a season since 2013. Furthermore, Asheville is just one victory shy of matching last season's total.
Freshman of the Week – The Big South Conference announced Monday that UNC Asheville volleyball player Albertine van der Goot has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week. It marks the first weekly award for the Bulldog volleyball team since the spring season of 2021 and van der Goot is the first Freshman of the Week honoree for the program since 2018.
Tip of the Hat to Teixeira – Matilde Teixeira also had a stellar first weekend as a Bulldog. In four matches, Teixeira totaled 47 kills, attacked at a .323 clip, and totaled 21 digs as well. The junior from Portugal has tallied 10 or more kills in all four of Asheville's matches so far this fall.
Baylor Leading the Way with Blocks – One of the Bulldog newcomers, Baylor Herlehy currently leads the Big South in blocks (22.0). Herlehy had at least four blocks in all four matches over the weekend.
About Furman – Furman enters Wednesday's match with the Bulldogs sporting a 2-1 record. The Paladins picked up victories over Quinnipiac and Morgan State on Friday but fell in three sets to Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Series Rewind vs. Furman – Wednesday's match between the Bulldogs and Paladins will be the first time that these two programs have matched up since 2004. Furman has won eight of the 12 all-time matches. Asheville, meanwhile, will be looking for just its second ever win in Greenville on Wednesday.
