Bulldogs Notch Second Straight Clean Sheet with 1-0 Win at Davidson
08.24.2023 | Women's Soccer
DAVIDSON, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer captured its second straight victory with a 1-0 shutout of Davidson on Thursday (Aug. 24), the second straight clean sheet for the Bulldogs. Asheville has also won its first two road games to start the year for the first time since 2015.
The Bulldogs put pressure on Davidson's back line in the early going, before a ball was fed long down the far wing by Jasmine Barry, with Nao Kawasaki winning the foot race and getting the first touch. Kawasaki made a move around a Davidson defender and buried her first goal as a Bulldog into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute. The Bulldogs would fend off several Davidson opportunities in their defensive end in the final 15 minutes of the half, before taking a 1-0 lead to the break.
The teams traded opportunities throughout the second half, but the Asheville back line stood tall to secure the second straight shutout for the Bulldogs. Asheville only allowed four shots in the second half, without Gracie Murray having to record a save in the period.
Barry notched her first career assist in the win, while Asheville totaled six shots and three corner kicks as a team. Taylor Gardner recorded a team-high two shots in the win, while Barry, Anna Doane, Kawasaki and Jordan Schaetzly each posted one shot in the match. Murray made one save in her first career shutout between the pipes.
The Bulldogs (2-1-0) return to the pitch next Thursday (Aug. 31) to host Wofford for Mental Health Awareness Night. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
