Four Bulldogs Earn Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Honors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Four UNC Asheville women's golf student-athletes earned All-American Scholar honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association, announced by the organization today (Thursday, July 6).

Senior Amber Capote, sophomore Ally Kerr, graduate Kayla Benge and senior Madyson Gold each earned the honor for the first time in their career.

To be selected, a student-athlete must:
• Have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
• Be an amateur and on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season.
• Have played in 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship

"I'm very proud of my team as a whole," said head coach Ross Cash. "Our team GPA in the spring championship season was almost 3.7. That's amazing with all the travel and practice, etc. It is difficult to be an elite Division I student-athlete and our team puts in the work to be great on the course and in the classroom. Congratulations to all of our student-athletes for their great work."

Capote appeared in six tournaments and 15 rounds as a junior, putting together a stroke average of 81.71 on the season. Capote holds a 3.54 grade point average in management.

This is Capote's first career All-American Scholar honor. She is a native of Waxhaw, N.C.

Kerr played in six tournaments and 17 rounds in her first year as a Bulldog, finishing fourth on the team with a scoring average of 78.00. Kerr registered three Top-20 finishes on the season, highlighted by a T10 (230, +14) finish in her first tournament at the Lady Bison Bay Point Classic (Feb. 5-7). Kerr holds a 3.67 grade point average in economics.

This is Kerr's first career All-American Scholar honor. She is a native of Melbourne, Australia.

Benge played in 11 tournaments and 31 rounds in her first year in Asheville, finishing second on the team with a 76.97 scoring average. She notched four Top-20 finishes highlighted by a career-best third-place finish at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate when she shot 222 (+6) to later earn Big South Conference Women's Golfer of the Week honors. Benge graduated from Asheville in May with a post-bachelor's degree in management.

This is Benge's first career All-American Scholar honor. She is a native of Plainfield, Ill.

Gold appeared in 11 tournaments and 31 rounds as a junior, recording six top-20 finishes including four top-five finishes. She finished third at the Jupiter Women's Invitational with a +4 214, tying a program record for low round with a 67 (-3) in round three. She also finished tied for second at the Terrier Intercollegiate with a +2 218. Gold won Asheville's first-ever individual tournament title with a +4 148 at the Low Country Intercollegiate, later earning Golfer of the Week honors. Gold would go on to set the school record for birdies in a single-season (75), single-season scoring average (75.16), single-season par or better rounds (five), single-season finish percentage (76.7%), single-season counting scores (96.6%), single-season par four scoring (4.2405), single-season par five scoring (5.7906), career scoring average (76.49), career par or better rounds (six) and career birdies (143). She was also named a Second Team All-Conference selection this season. She holds a 3.53 grade point average in mass communication, with a double minor in new media and psychology.

This is Gold's first career All-American Scholar honor. She is a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
