Hoese Shoots Under Par to Lead Asheville in First Round of Golfweek Fall Challenge

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team opened the Golfweek Fall Challenge on Sunday with a team score of 295 (+11) at the par-71, 6,004-yard Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.

The Bulldogs sit in 17th place following the opening round, just one stroke behind Mercer and Central Arkansas, who are tied for 15th at 10-over. Asheville enters Monday's second round three strokes behind 13th-place Morehead State and Radford. The Bulldogs are also ahead of fellow Big South members Presbyterian, who sits in 20th, and USC Upstate in 21st. High Point leads the 23-team field following an opening-round 273 (-11).

Breanna Hoese led the Bulldogs with a 2-under 69 and enters the second round tied for ninth individually. Hoese is just three strokes off the individual lead after becoming one of 15 golfers in the field to finish the opening round under par.

Jordyn Arts was Asheville's second-lowest scorer on Sunday, finishing with a 2-over 73 to sit tied for 55th. Praelyn Jirasaraikul followed one stroke behind with a 3-over 74 and is tied for 64th.

Sydney Craven rounded out Asheville's four counting scores with an 8-over 79 and is tied for 106th, while Ella Moynihan recorded a 9-over 80 and sits tied for 109th.

As a team, Asheville recorded 15 birdies and 45 pars during the opening round. The Bulldogs also played the par-5 holes at 1-under for the day, averaging 4.95 strokes on the par 5s.

UNC Asheville returns to Caledonia Golf & Fish Club on Monday for the second round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge.
