ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Head Men's Basketball Coach Mike Morrell announced the signing of Evan Johnson on Friday. Johnson, a Durham, N.C. native, spent the past three seasons as a member of the Georgia State men's basketball team.

"We are very excited to welcome Evan to our program," said Morrell. "He comes with a lot of experience and has been to the NCAA tournament as well. His ability to make shots and fit our style of play makes him a great addition to our program."

During his time at Georgia State, Johnson appeared in 68 games. He scored 484 points, grabbed 115 rebounds, and dished out 112 assists to go with 45 steals. Johnson, who knocked down 89 3-pointers during his time in Atlanta, scored a career-high 28 points in a game at South Alabama in 2021 where knocked down six 3-pointers. During the 2022-23 campaign, Johnson played in 20 games (nine starts) and averaged a career-high 9.3 points.

Prior to enrolling at Georgia State, Johnson was listed by 24/7Sports as the No. 14 player in Virginia, 53rd-best point guard in the nation, and just outside of the top 300 players in the country. He played three seasons at Oak Hill Academy helping his team to a 107-10 record while winning the 2018 and 2020 Bass Pro Championship, 2019 Iona Hawai'i Classic, 2017 Chick-Fil-A Classic, and 2017 Les Schwab title.
