Baseball Readies for a Key Big South Series at Gardner-Webb

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team will be back in action this week for a key Big South series at Gardner-Webb. The series, which has been altered due to the weather forecast, will begin with a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out – Asheville dropped a 7-3 non-conference matchup to Appalachian State on Tuesday night from Greenwood Field. With Tuesday's loss, the Bulldogs are now 17-11 on the 2023 campaign.
Robbie on a Roll – Robbie Burnett has not only been one of Asheville's top hitters this spring but also one of the best in the Big South. Burnett leads Asheville in multiple categories including batting average (.382), walks (21), slugging percentage (.755), runs scored (34), triples (3), and home runs (8). With a double and a home run last night vs. App State, nearly half of Burnett's hits this season have gone for extra bases (19 of 39).
Douglas with a Dominant Month – Ryan Douglas had a stellar month of March for Asheville. In four starts on the mound, Douglas went a perfect 4-0 with a 2.14 ERA in 21 innings pitched to go with 29 strikeouts. Douglas currently leads the staff with a 3.28 ERA among pitchers with at least nine innings pitched.
About Gardner-Webb – Gardner-Webb is off to a good start in 2023 with a record of 18-9 overall and a 7-2 mark in Big South play. The Runnin' Bulldogs are a team powered by their pitching staff. Gardner-Webb is tied for the second-most shutouts in the nation (5) and rank 19th in Division I baseball in team ERA (3.78).
Series Rewind vs. Gardner-Webb – Asheville and Gardner-Webb have played over 60 times since their first matchup back in 1985.
