Asheville Women's Tennis Racks Up Big South Conference All-Conference Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville Women's Tennis team racked up the All-Conference awards, per the Big South Conference's announcement today (Thursday, Apr. 20).

The Bulldogs captured three major awards in the league, with Ami Grace Dougah winning Player of the Year, Elizabeth Tindera winning Freshman of the Year and Lise Gregory winning Coach of the Year. Dougah, Linge Steenkamp and Tindera all earned First Team All-Conference Honors in singles play, while Dougah and Rosie Dickson as well as Ari Siegel and Linge Steenkamp earned First Team All-Conference honors in doubles play. Dickson and Avery Sager earned Second Team All-Conference honors in singles play, while Tindera and Valeria Centeno earned Second Team All-Conference honors in doubles play. Dickson was also named to the Big South Conference All-Academic Team.

Dougah went 15-1 on the season in singles play at No. 1, including a perfect 6-0 in conference to become Asheville's first Player of the Year since Jenee Cross in 1990. Riding a current five-match winning streak, she was named Player of the Week four times this season, to bring her career total to seven.

This is Dougah's third career All-Conference Singles honor, and her first career Player of the Year honor. She is a native of Lawrenceville, Ga., and is a management major.

Tindera posted a 13-1 record at No. 3 singles on the season, along with a 5-1 mark in conference. Currently on a six-match winning streak she earned Freshman of the Week three times and was also named Player of the Week once this season. She is Asheville's first Freshman of the Year since Lize Alet-Morkel in 2019.

This is Tindera's first career All-Conference singles honor along with her Freshman of the Year award. She is a native of Dana, Ind.

Gregory led the Bulldogs to their first Big South Conference regular season championship since 1989 as the Bulldogs ride a 15-match winning streak into the conference championships, the longest such streak in her tenure as head coach. This is Gregory's second career Coach of the Year honor, and the first for Asheville since Gregory back in 2009.

Dougah and Dickson went 10-3 in doubles play on the season, including a perfect 4-0 in conference. The tandem is currently on an eight-match winning streak.

This is the third career All-Conference doubles selection for both Dougah and Dickson.

Siegel and Steenkamp posted an 11-1 mark at No. 2 doubles on the season, including a perfect 5-0 mark in conference. The tandem is currently on a seven-match winning streak.

This is the second career All-Conference doubles honor for both Siegel and Steenkamp.

Siegel is a native of Bradenton, Fla., and is an environmental science major.

Steenkamp is a native of Bloemfontein, South Africa, and is a health and wellness promotion major.

Dickson was also named to the All-Conference Singles Second Team, going 9-4 on the season including 5-1 in conference. She is currently on a three-match winning streak. In addition,
Dickson was named to the All-Academic Team with a 3.24 grade point average in environmental science.

This is Dickson's second career All-Conference Singles selection, and her first selection to the All-Academic Team. She is a native of Bradenton, Fla.

Sager went 10-4 on the season at No. 5 singles, including going 4-1 in conference. Sager was also named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week once this season.

This is Sager's first career All-Conference selection. She is a native of Waxhaw, N.C.

Tindera and Centeno teamed up for an 11-3 record at No. 3 doubles this season, including going 3-1 in conference.

This is the first career All-Conference Doubles honor for both Tindera and Centeno.

Centeno is a native of Hialeah, Fla.

The Bulldogs (15-1) return to action on Saturday (Apr. 22) as the No. 1 seed in the Big South Conference Championships, facing No. 4 Campbell in the semifinal. First serve is set for 9:00 a.m. from the Marion Diehl Tennis Complex in Charlotte, N.C.
