Asheville Women's Tennis Sweeps Big South Conference Weekly Awards for the Third Time This Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the third time this season, UNC Asheville Women's Tennis has swept the Big South Conference Women's Tennis weekly awards, with Ami Grace Dougah winning Player of the Week and Elizabeth Tindera winning Freshman of the Week each for the fourth time respectively this season. 

With a 7-0 win over Presbyterian and a 4-3 win over Charleston Southern last week, the Bulldogs extended their winning streak to 15 matches and also captured their first Big South Conference regular season championship since 1989.

In the win over Presbyterian, Douagh teamed up with Rosie Dickson for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, before posting a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Against Charleston Southern, Dougah and Dickson won at No. 1 doubles 6-3 before Dougah won at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-1.

This is Dougah's seventh career Player of the Week honor. The Lawrenceville, Ga. native is a management major.

In the win over Presbyterian, Tindera teamed up with Valeria Centeno for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles, before posting a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. Against Charleston Southern, Tindera won 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.

This is Tindera's fourth career Freshman of the Week honor. She is a native of Dana, Ind.

The Bulldogs (15-1, 6-0 Big South Conference) are the top seed in the upcoming Big South Conference Championships next weekend (Apr. 22-23) at Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte, N.C.
