Baseball Returns Home to Host Western Carolina

ASHEVILLE, N.C. –The UNC Asheville baseball team will return home to Greenwood Field on Tuesday to host longtime rival Western Carolina in non-conference action. First pitch between the Bulldogs and Catamounts is set for 5 p.m.
 
Promotions – Admission to Tuesday's game is free courtesy of Ingles. Admission will be free for all of UNC Asheville's home games this season courtesy of our partnership with Ingles. Additionally, UNC Asheville men's basketball player Drew Pember will throw out the first pitch.

Last Time Out – The Bulldogs fell in their series finale at Gardner-Webb on Friday by a score of 11-9. With that loss, Asheville is now 18-13 overall and 5-7 in Big South play.
 
Robbie on a Roll –
Robbie Burnett has been on a roll lately for the Bulldogs. In four games last week, Burnett hit .438 with three home runs. Burnett, who has homered in four of his last five games, has already doubled his home run total from last season this spring (five to 10).  Furthermore, Burnett has reached base successfully in 26 consecutive games.

Home is where the wins are – With its next four games at home, the Bulldogs will look to string some victories together. Asheville is 10 games over the .500 mark at home this spring (14-4).

Bacot Continues to Drive in Runs – Dylan Bacot continues to be a RBI machine for Asheville this season. Bacot already has 43 RBI in 2023, which leads the Big South. On a national level, Bacot's 43 RBI ranks 23rd.  With still over a month to go in the regular season, Bacot is within range of breaking the program's single season RBI record of 59 set by Brian Shehan in 1989.
 
About Western Carolina – 
Western Carolina currently has a record of 12-18 overall and a 3-5 mark in Southern Conference play. A couple players to watch for the Catamounts are James Hinson and Pascanel Ferreras. Hinson is hitting .342 with eight home runs and 25 RBI, while Ferreras is not far behind hitting .331 with seven home runs and 36 RBI.
 
Series Rewind vs. the Catamounts –
 The series between the Bulldogs and Catamounts dates back to 1985 and consists of nearly 80 games. Asheville, which trails in the all-time series 53-25, has gotten the better of WCU recently as the Bulldogs have won eight of the last nine games between these two schools.
