DAY 1 RESULTS

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. - The UNC Asheville track and field team holds second place on the women's side (45 points) and third place on the men's side (34 points) after the first day of competition at the Montreat Invitational on Friday (Mar. 24). The Bulldogs were led by multiple outstanding displays, with three first place finishes with multiple podium and top-eight performances.

Once again, the Bulldog throwers executed their events with precision, with Solomon McDonald winning the men's discus and Raina Jackson winning the women's shot put. A day after taking eighth at the Raleigh Relays, McDonald got back into the win column, throwing the discus 51.07 meters. Jackson also bounced back onto the podium, with a winning shot put throw of 13.17-meters.

Two freshman throwers also took spots on the podium, with Madison Hannah taking second in the discus and Jada Brigman taking second in the shot put. Hannah shattered her previous personal best with a 40.23-meter throw, six meters better than her previous best. Brigman, a two-sport athlete at Asheville, threw for 12.45-meters in her first collegiate meet.

John Ciprich took home the top prize in the men's 5000-meter run, running a 15:41.26 and besting his personal best by over 12 seconds. He followed two podium performances from his distance teammates Daniel Hopkins (4:01.96) and Tom Germann (4:02.67), who took third and fourth in the 1500-meter run.

Other noteworthy performances came from Brianna Moore, who took fourth in the women's long jump. Madeline Wittschen, Sophie Lundin, and Alyx Beausoleil placed fifth, sixth, and seventh, capturing nine points for the women in the 1500-meter run.

The Bulldogs will look to move ahead in the standings tomorrow (Saturday, Mar. 25) in the final day of the Montreat Invitational. Events will begin at 10:00 a.m. and with live results shown HERE.
