Bulldogs fall in Sunday’s series finale at Charleston Southern

Asheville was limited to six hits on Sunday. Corbin Lanowitz led the way for the Bulldog offense going 2-for-5 and he drove in three of the team's four runs on the day. Ty Kaufman, Robbie Burnett, Michael Groves, and Tylan Reece also picked up hits for Asheville.
Seven different pitchers saw time on the mound for the Bulldogs against Charleston Southern. Justin Honeycutt made the start and took the loss after working 3.1 innings, allowing six runs on six hits. Asheville did have a pair of pitchers do well on Sunday as Bryce Fisher (1.2 innings) and Chris Sabo (1.1 innings) combined to throw three shutout innings out of the bullpen.
Sunday's game started well for the Bulldogs. Hits from Kaufman and Burnett along with a Charleston Southern error gave Asheville a bases loaded opportunity with nobody out. Lanowitz and Cameron Johnson would drive in runs with RBI groundouts to stake the Bulldogs to an early 2-0 lead.
Charleston Southern would score a run in the second and add two more in the third to take the lead. In both innings, however, the Bulldogs turned key double plays to prevent bigger run outbursts from Charleston Southern. CSU, however, would break through with four runs in the fourth and tack on three more in the eighth. The Bulldogs would score single runs in the seventh and ninth but it was not enough as the Buccaneers would finish off the 10-4 win.
Asheville will return home on Tuesday when it welcomes East Tennessee State in for a non-conference matchup. First pitch between the Bulldogs and Buccaneers is set for 4 p.m. from Greenwood Field on ESPN+.
