Men's Tennis Hosts Radford Friday, Radford Sunday in Big South Conference Opener

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville men's tennis hosts Richmond on Friday (Mar. 17) in non-conference action, before welcoming Radford on Sunday (Mar. 19) for its Big South Conference opener. First serve for the match against Richmond is set for 2:00 p.m., while the Radford match is set for a 1:00 p.m. start. Both matches will be played at the Asheville Racquet Club.

About the Bulldogs - The Bulldogs come into the week at 5-4 overall after a 5-2 loss to East Tennessee State back on Mar. 1. To date the Bulldogs own a combined 12-8 doubles record as well as a combined 27-24 singles record. The team of Harry Thursfield and Sam Nicholson leads the way with five doubles wins, while Jon Brann Reid and Rafa Serra also have four wins in doubles play. Bruno Serra and Chester Wickwire have two wins in doubles play, while Thursfield and Reid also have one doubles win. Freddy Murray and Nicholson each have six singles wins on the season, while Thursfield has five and Reid has three. Bruno Serra, Tarek Erlewein and Rafa Serra each have two wins in singles play, while Wickwire also has one.

About the Spiders - Richmond enters the matchup at 8-4 overall and 0-1 in the Atlantic 10 after a 4-0 loss at Belmont on Mar. 10.  

About the Highlanders - Radford comes into the week at 5-4 overall, taking on Longwood today in their Big South Conference opener and hosting No. 68 New Mexico on Saturday before coming to Asheville. Radford enters the week with an 11-10 combined doubles record as well as a 19-22 combined singles record. The tandem of Konstantinos Raptis and Demis Taramonlis lead the way with five doubles wins, while the teams of Aditya Balsekar and Guilherme Serevin and Charles Courteau and Robert Hagen each have three wins in doubles play. Taramonlis, Raptis and Balsekar each have four wins in singles play, while Serevin and Hagen each have three wins and Filippo Maragoni also has one singles win.   

Series History - This will be the first ever meeting between Richmond and Asheville. This will be the 17th all-time meeting between Asheville and Radford, with Radford leading the all-time series 10-6-1. Radford won the last matchup between the two programs 5-2 back on Mar. 20, 2022.
