Men's Tennis Heads to Tennessee for a Weekend Road Trip

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville men's tennis heads to Tennessee for a weekend road trip this weekend, visiting Chattanooga on Friday (Feb. 10), Lipscomb on Saturday (Feb. 11) and Belmont on Sunday (Feb. 12). Both matches against Chattanooga and Lipscomb will start at 5:00 p.m., while the match against Belmont will start at 10:00 a.m.

About the Bulldogs - The Bulldogs enter the matchup at 2-0 after a 7-0 victory over Tusculum on Saturday (Feb. 4). The Bulldogs have posted a 5-0 doubles record so far on the season, along with an 11-1 singles record. The teams of Bruno Serra and Chester Wickwire and Harry Thursfield and Sam Nicholson each have two doubles wins on the year, while Jon Brann Reid and Rafa Serra also have one doubles win. Tarek Erlewein, Freddy Murray and Nicholson each have two singles wins on the year, while Reid, Bruno Serra, Rafa Serra, Thursfield and Wickwire each have one win in singles play on the year.

About the Mocs - Chattanooga enters the weekend at 3-2 overall after a 7-0 loss to Belmont on Sunday (Feb. 5). Chattanooga to this point owns a combined 27-23 doubles record and a 56-62 singles record. Kerim Hyatt lead the way in doubles play with eight wins, while Peyton Gatti and Simon Labbe have four wins and Labbe and Jordan McClure also have three wins. Six other doubles tandems each have two wins on the year. Hyatt and Ryan Mudre each have nine singles wins on the season, while Gatti also has eight wins on the year. Seven other players have posted singles wins on the season.  

About the Bison - Lipscomb enters the weekend at 1-2 overall, facing Tennessee State on Friday (Feb. 10) before hosting the Bulldogs on Saturday. Lipscomb owns a combined 18-5 doubles record on the season, as well as a combined 35-25 singles record. Three different doubles tandems each have six wins on the year. Maksim Bogdanovich leads the way with nine wins on the year, while Pablo Caffarena also has seven wins on the season. Jorge Ortegon also has five wins on the season, while three others each have four wins and Jake Penny also has two.

About the Bruins - Belmont enters the weekend at 4-0 on the season after a 6-1 victory over Lipscomb on Jan. 29 and a 7-0 victory over Chattanooga on Sunday (Feb. 5). Belmont is 10-1 so far this season in doubles play, along with a 21-3 mark in singles play. Marko Illic and Riccardo Trione own a 4-0 mark in doubles play, while the tandems of Ian Cruz and Tomas Luis and Alfred Wallin and Jack Randall each have three doubles wins on the season. Cruz, Luis and Trione each have four singles wins on the year, while Illic and Gabriel Sardo each have three wins on the season. Three other Bruins each have one singles win on the season.

Series History - This will be the fourth all-time matchup between Asheville and Chattanooga, with Chattanooga leading the series 2-1. Chattanooga captured a 4-3 victory in the last matchup back on Mar. 7, 2021. This will be the third all-time meeting between Asheville and Lipscomb, with Lipscomb leading the all-time series 2-0. Lipscomb won the last matchup 4-3 back on Feb. 7, 2020. This will be the third all-time matchup between Asheville and Belmont, with the series tied 1-1. Asheville captured a 4-1 victory in the last matchup back on Feb. 11, 2022.
