Women's Tennis Hosts Appalachian State Saturday, Radford Sunday in Big South Conference Opener

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville women's tennis hosts Appalachian State in non-conference action on Saturday (Feb. 25), before opening Big South Conference play hosting Radford on Sunday (Feb. 26). First serve for the Appalachian State match is set for 2:00 p.m., while the match against Radford is set for 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the Asheville Racquet Club.

About the Bulldogs - The Bulldogs come into the weekend at 7-1 overall on a seven-match winning streak, picking up a 5-2 win over Western Carolina their last time out (Feb. 13). The Bulldogs own a combined 17-7 doubles record, along with a 35-12 combined singles record. Elizabeth Tindera and Valeria Centeno along with Ari Siegel and Linge Steenkamp each have six doubles wins on the season, while Ami Grace Dougah and Rosie Dickson also have five wins in doubles play. Dougah leads the way in singles play with eight wins, while Steenkamp has seven wins and Tindera has six. Centeno has five wins in singles play, while Avery Sager has four and Dickson also has three. Beatrice Faureng and Siegel each also have one win in singles play.     

About the Mountaineers - App State comes into the matchup at 3-3 after a 4-0 loss to Clemson back on Feb. 11. The Mountaineers own a combined 8-9 doubles record as well as a 13-14 singles record. Two doubles pairs in Maggie Pate and Savannah Dadamascoll and Ellie Murphy and Helena Jansen each have three wins on the year, while Brooke Gruber and Virginia Poggi also have two wins in doubles play. Jansen and Dadamascoll each have three wins in singles play, while Pate, Poggi and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey each have two singles wins. Murphy also has one singles win on the season.

About the Highlanders - Radford enters conference play at 0-5 overall after a 6-1 loss to West Virginia on Feb. 18. Radford comes in with a 2-10 combined doubles record, as well as a 2-27 singles record. The tandems of Julia Abrams and Emily Brandow and Ameek Batth and Camryn McClure each have one doubles win on the season. Abrams and Brooke Murphy each have one singles win on the year.

Series History - This will be the 14th all-time meeting between Asheville and Appalachian State, with App State leading the all-time series 8-5. Appalachian State won the last matchup 6-1 back on Feb. 16, 2018. This will be the 20th all-time meeting between Asheville and Radford, with Radford leading the all-time series 12-7. Radford won the last matchup 5-2 back on Apr. 4, 2022.
