Men’s Basketball Readies for a Matchup at Radford on ESPNU

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's basketball team will make its third appearance on ESPNU this season when it travels to Radford on Thursday night in a key Big South matchup. Tip-off between the Bulldogs and Highlanders is set for 7 p.m.

20th Win for Asheville –By reaching the 20-win mark on Saturday, it marked the seventh 20-win campaign for the Bulldogs since they moved to the Division I ranks in the mid-1980s. Asheville achieved 20 victories in just 27 games, which ties the fastest that a Bulldog team has ever reached 20 wins in a season joining the 1982-83 and 2016-17 teams.
Big Time Matchup in the Big South – Thursday's game between Asheville and Radford will pit the top two teams in the Big South standings. Asheville (12-2) and Radford (11-3). Both the Bulldogs and Highlanders have clinched spots in the Quarterfinals in the upcoming 2023 Hercules Tires Big South Basketball Championships as have Longwood (10-4) and Gardner-Webb (10-4). Back on the U –As mentioned earlier, the Bulldogs will be making their third appearance on ESPNU this season. The last time that Asheville, which defeated Longwood (54-46) and High Point (89-63) in its other two appearances on ESPNU, appeared on ESPNU three times in one season was the 2016-17 when the team finished 23-10.
About Radford –Radford enters Thursday's matchup with the Bulldogs sporting a 17-10 overall record that includes an 11-2 mark in Big South play. The Highlanders, who have won 10 of their last 11 games, are led by DaQuan Smith. Smith, who scored 14 points when the two teams matched up earlier this season, is averaging a team-high 13.6 points per game and that ranks eighth in the Big South.
Series Rewind vs. Radford – The all-times series between the Bulldogs and Highlanders has been very competitive with Asheville holding the slight edge, 40-39. Asheville knocked off Radford by a score of 62-58 earlier this season at Kimmel Arena. In the last game played at Radford, which was also a victory for the Bulldogs (78-74), Drew Pember scored 41 points to help Asheville notch its first win at Radford since 2014.
