ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After a season-long three-match road swing, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team will return home to Greenwood Field on Wednesday to host Mount St. Mary's. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Mountaineers is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – In a unique occurrence, Asheville and East Tennessee State played to a no contest on Sunday. At the time of match stopping due to weather, the score was tied 1-1 after a goal from Solveig Schlitter erased an early ETSU lead. With that result, the Bulldogs' remain at 2-4-1 on the 2022 season.
Home Sweet Home – Asheville will look to get back to its winning ways not only on Wednesday but also when it opens Big South play next week. The Bulldogs have built a little bit of a home field advantage at Greenwood Field recently as they have won four of their last six home games, including a 2-1 mark this season.
Afternoon Soccer – Wednesday's 1 p.m. kickoff time is a little bit unusual for the Bulldogs. It'll mark the earliest Asheville has played a match since September 5, 2021 when it hosted Indiana State at Noon. Furthermore, it'll be the earliest weekday match for Asheville since September 6, 2019 when it also hosted ECU at 1 p.m.
About Mount St. Mary's – Mount St. Mary's will bring a 1-1-3 record with it to Asheville on Wednesday. The Mountaineers picked up their first victory of the season last Saturday by shutting out Hampton, 3-0. Despite the three-goal outburst in that match, the strength of Mountaineers has been in their defense. It has allowed more than one goal just once so far in their five matches. Furthermore, their goalkeepers rank 41st nationally with an 84.8 save percentage.
How to Follow – As mentioned previously, Wednesday's match will air on ESPN+. Live stats will also be available HERE. Also, note that due to the unique start time, the concession stand will not be on Wednesday. Fans will be allowed to bring in an unopened non-alcoholic beverage to the match.
