Women’s Soccer ends road swing Sunday at East Tennessee State
09.10.2022 | Women's Soccer
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will end a three-match road swing Sunday when it visits East Tennessee State in a non-conference matchup. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Buccaneers is set for 6 p.m.
Last Time Out – Asheville dropped a close 1-0 decision on the road at Davidson last Thursday. With the loss, Asheville's record moved to 2-4-1 on the 2022 campaign.
Taylor tops the scoring charts – Despite being held off the scoreboard recently, sophomore Taylor Gardner will enter Sunday's match at ETSU as the Big South's leading point scorer with 11. Gardner's 11 points now rank 27th nationally.
Spread the Scoring – A strength for the Bulldogs so far in 2022 has been their ability to multiple different players generate some scoring chances. This strategy has worked well as Asheville ranks second in the Big South with 14 goals scored. Furthermore, eight different players have netted at least one goal so far this season.
About the Buccaneers – ETSU has a record of 2-2-2 so far in 2022. The Buccaneers have won two of their last three matches against USC Upstate (1-0) and Appalachian State (3-1). Individually, Emma Arnold leads the way for East Tennessee State with five points (two goals, one assist).
Series Rewind vs. ETSU – Asheville holds the edge all-time against ETSU winning nine of the 17 matches between the two programs. ETSU upended the Bulldogs, 1-0, in double overtime last August at Greenwood Field. Asheville, however, won the last match between the two teams that occurred in Johnson City on August 25, 2019 by a score of 1-0.
