Women’s Soccer opens the 2022 season Thursday at Wofford

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will lift the lid on its 2022 season on Thursday when it makes the short trip to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Wofford. Kickoff for that contest is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
Quick Look Back at 2021 – The 2021 Bulldogs posted their most conference wins (5) since 2004 and their most overall victories (6) since 2016. Asheville, which won three of its last four matches to close the season, finished 2021 with an overall record of 6-11-1 and 5-5-0 in Big South play.
Preseason Predictions – Entering the 2022 campaign, the Bulldogs were picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Big South Coaches' Poll. Defending regular season champion Campbell was picked to repeat as league champions in the poll.
Players to Watch – Asheville has a pair of players returning that earned All-Big South honors a season ago in Taylor Gardner (All-Big South Freshman Team) and Kaiya Boyd (All-Big South Honorable Mention). Gardner led the Bulldogs with six goals in 2021, which included a pair of game-winners. Boyd, meanwhile, totaled 12 points (four goals, four assists) in her second season in Asheville.
Scouting Wofford – Wofford is coming off a season where it finished with a 5-12-2 overall record and a 3-5-1 mark in Southern Conference play. The Terriers figure to be led by Rachel Rasins, who is the team's leading returning goal scorer from a season ago with three.
