04.21.2022 | Women's Tennis

ASHEVILLE, N.C. No. 4 UNC Asheville Women's Tennis will make the trek to Charlotte Friday morning for a matchup with No. 1 Charleston Southern in the Big South Semifinals.

Asheville is coming off a gutsy quarterfinal win against No. 5 Presbyterian 4-2, which saw four singles matches go to three sets, and a 4-1 comeback on the No. 3 doubles court by Scholar Athlete of the Year recipient Lize Alet Morkel and Taylor Love.

Asheville last appeared in the semi's in the 2019 season, where they fell to Radford 4-0. All-time, the Bulldogs are 0-3 in semifinal appearances.

Charleston Southern, coming off their second straight undefeated season in conference play, has not lost to a Big South opponent since the 2018-19 season and is looking for their third straight Big South Championship.

The Bucs and the Bulldogs met two short weeks ago, where a shorthanded Asheville squad dropped the match 7-0.

The last time Asheville and Charleston Southern met in the Big South Tournament was in 1995 in the 7th place match, where the Bulldogs took a 7-0 victory.

Friday's Semifinal will start at 11:00 a.m. at Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte, N.C., with the winner advancing to play No. 3 Gardner Webb on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
