Women’s Basketball draws second-seeded Longwood in Big South Semifinals on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following back-to-back upset victories at the 2022 Hercules Tires Big South Women's Basketball Tournament, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team will look to keep this memorable run going Saturday when it takes on No. 2 seed Longwood in the tournament's semifinal round. Saturday's game is slated for an 8 p.m. tip-off from the Bojangles Coliseum, and the game will be on ESPN+.

Carter netted a team-high 23 points to go with seven rebounds to help Asheville advance to the semifinals on Saturday.
Bulldogs continued success in the Big South Tournament – The back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs this week in Charlotte continues a string of stellar outings by Asheville in the league tournament. Saturday will mark Asheville's fifth appearance in the semifinal appearance since 2016. The Bulldogs, who have won at least one game in the conference tournament in eight of the last nine seasons, will aim to earn its place in the championship game for the seventh time in program history.
About Longwood – Longwood enters the semifinal matchup with Asheville coming off a 70-61 win over Hampton on Thursday. The Lancers also bring a seven-game winning streak into Saturday's contest, with their last loss coming to Campbell back on February 5, 58-45. The stellar tandem of Akila Smith (Big South Player of the Year) and Kyla McMakin are two players to watch out for on Saturday as both are coming off seasons where they landed spots on the All-Big South First Team.
Series Rewind vs. Lancers – The Bulldogs lead the all-time series against Longwood, winning 15 of the 25 games between the two programs. Longwood swept Asheville during the regular season by scores of 62-57 and 76-72. Saturday's game will mark the third time the Bulldogs and Lancers have met in the postseason, with the last being in last year's quarterfinals, where Longwood came out on top, 83-69.
