Last Time Out – As mentioned earlier, the Bulldogs notched an exciting 68-59 win over North Carolina A&T to open the Big South Tournament. The win, which was Asheville's first over A&T since December 20, 2005, boosted the Bulldogs' record to 9-21 on the season.
Freshman flourishes in the tournament – A definite highlight in Asheville's victory over A&T was the play of freshman Jordaynia Ivie. Ivie netted a career-high 20 points on a 7-for-11 effort from the field. Ivie, who also shot 4-for-7 from 3-point range, also added five steals, three assists, and two rebounds in the win.
Evans adds another accolade – During a season where fifth-year senior Nadiria Evans has broken several records, she added another one to her resume on Tuesday. With her 20 points against the Aggies, Evans broke the program's single-season scoring record during the Division I era. Evans has now scored 522 points in the 2021-22 season, surpassing the previous record of 506 points held by Emily Hill set in the 1997-98 season.
Big South Tournament success continues – With Tuesday's win over the Aggies, Asheville continued its stellar streak of success in the conference's showcase event. The Bulldogs have won at least one game in the Big South Tournament in eight of the last nine years.
About USC Upstate – USC Upstate enters Thursday's tilt with the Bulldogs with a record of 22-7 overall and 14-4 in Big South play. Upstate, the tournament's number three seed, entered the final game of the regular season to win the Big South regular season title but lost out to Campbell. The Spartans are led by the duo of Chellia Watson (15.7 PPG) and Rachael Rose (12.7 PPG). Additionally, Rose was named the Big South's Freshman of the Year after her play this season.
Series Rewind vs. Upstate – The all-time series between the Bulldogs and Spartans is split right down the middle, with each team defeating the other nine times. Upstate has held the edge recently, winning four straight, including both matchups this season in Spartanburg and Asheville. This will mark the first postseason matchup between Upstate and Asheville.
