02.09.2022 | Women's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C.  – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will return to Kimmel Arena on Thursday when it hosts Hampton in another key Big South matchup. Thursday's game is scheduled to get underway at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.

$5 February & Game Promotions - Thursday's game, which Mission Health and Pepsi will sponsor, will also be the program's Breast Cancer Awareness game, and fans are encouraged to wear pink. A reminder, tickets to all basketball games this month are just $5 as a part of UNC Asheville's "$5 February" promotion. To purchase tickets ahead of time, click here.

Last Time Out – The Bulldogs battled Gardner-Webb in a hard-fought road contest on Monday evening. However, a late run by the Runnin' Bulldogs sealed the 80-68 win for Gardner-Webb. With the loss, Asheville's 2021-22 record stands at 7-16 overall and 2-10 in Big South play.

Nadiria Nets Another Record – With a 30-point outburst in Monday's contest, Nadiria Evans became Asheville's all-time leading scorer in the Division I era. Evans, who surpassed Vicki Giffin's (1993-97) 1,703 points, has netted 1,705 points during her career in a Bulldog uniform. Evans has been especially productive lately as she is averaging 30.3 points per game and is shooting 49.2 percent from the field in the three games so far in February.

Freshman finding herself – As she enters the final stretch of her freshman season, Jordaynia Ivie has taken her play up a notch recently. So far in February, Ivie is averaging nearly 10 points per game (9.7 PPG) and is shooting a very efficient 55.6 percent from the field in February. Furthermore, Ivie has helped her teammates score as she is tied with the team lead with 10 assists so far this month.

Déjà vu like 2020-21 – Due to some schedule adjustments earlier in the season, the Bulldogs will be playing Hampton in each of their next two games. Following Thursday's contest, Asheville will travel to Hampton on Saturday. This setup slightly mirrors the league schedule in 2020-21 when teams played each other on back-to-back days. The back-to-back games vs. Hampton marks the third time this season that Asheville has seen the same opponent in consecutive games, with the other being against Longwood and Gardner-Webb.

About Hampton – The Lady Pirates will come to Asheville sporting an 8-11 overall record and a 4-5 mark in Big South play. Hampton snapped a three-game losing skid on Tuesday when it picked up just its second road win of the season in defeating Presbyterian, 56-53. A player to watch for Hampton is Nylah Young, who is averaging near a double-double (16.6 PPG, 7.3 RPG).

Series Rewind vs. Hampton – Asheville and Hampton have met just five times previously, with four of those matchups occurring since 2018. Hampton has the edge in the series, 4-1, but the Bulldogs downed the Lady Pirates by a score of 78-69 in the last game between the two teams.
