Men’s Tennis edges out UNCG, improves to 4-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team continued its perfect start to the young season on Sunday, earning a 4-3 victory at UNCG.
The match was tight from the beginning, as Leo Bierbaum and Jon Brann Reid were able to edge out Nico Grewe and Alex Zuckerman 7-5 at No. 1 doubles, while Rafa and Bruno Serra replicated that score at the No. 3 doubles flight to pick up the crucial team point.
In singles competition, Reid dropped his first match of the season, but took Grewe to three sets at flight No. 1. Bierbaum held strong at the No. 2 flight, topping Zuckerman 6-3, 6-3.
Rafa Serra took care of business at the No. 5 spot, topping Christopher Johns 7-5, 6-1. At the No. 3 flight, Bruno Serra dropped the first set, but responded with two strong 6-4 set wins to claim the fourth and decisive point for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will have some time off, returning to the court Saturday when they host North Florida at 3:30 p.m.
