Men’s Tennis drops first match, edged out by North Florida 4-3

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team battled until the end on Saturday before ultimately coming up just short to North Florida, with the Ospreys taking the match 4-3.
The loss is just the first of the season for the Bulldogs, who sit at 4-1. Asheville has a quick turnaround, hosting Belmont Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
Jon Bran Reid and Harry Thursfield battled at the No. 1 doubles flight, but fell 6-4 to Jorge Nunez and Jonas Hartenstein, with the Ospreys taking the No. 2 doubles match 6-1.
In singles competition, Reid dropped set one 7-5, fighting to a second-set tiebreaker before Hartenstein took the No. 1 flight. Thursfield would score a big victory at the No. 2 position, topping his opponent 6-3, 6-7, 6-4. North Florida claimed flights 3 and 4, but Quinn Fender topped Rodrigo Crespo 7-5 (5-3), 7-5 at the No. 5 position. With the match in hand, Rafa Serra claimed victory at the No. 6 spot, winning the super tiebreak 10-8.
