02.04.2022 | Men's Tennis
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team is set for a busy weekend, hosting Emmanuel College on Saturday before visiting UNC Greensboro on Sunday.
Fast Start
Asheville has gotten off to a perfect start this season, topping Montreat College and North Carolina Central 7-0 last week in its first two matches. Jon Brann Reid has gotten the action at the No. 1 flight, having won both of his matches 6-1, while Leo Bierbaum has replicated that effort at the No. 2 flight.
A look at Emmanuel
The Lions have faced three Division I opponents already this season, falling 7-0 to Presbyterian, Furman and Mercer. Thembokwhe Makhanya has competed all three times at the No. 1 flight. A Division II school, Emmanuel competes in the Carolinas.
A look at UNCG
The Spartans have played just one match, but it was against N.C. Central, sweeping the Eagles 7-0 just as the Bulldogs did. Nico Grewe and Alexander Zuckerman won their matches at the No. 1 and 2 flights respectively, teaming up for a 6-3 win in doubles. Historically, UNCG has gotten the better of the two sides, going 9-4 in their last 13. Recently, however, Asheville has been the more dominant club, winning four of the last five matches, and enters Sunday on a three-match win streak between the two sides.
Attendance Update
At this time, attendance at all Asheville tennis matches is limited to students with a valid OneCard. All attendees must show proof of vaccination and wear a mask at all times.
