Last Time Out – The Bulldogs picked up a win in their regular season finale as they knocked off Charleston Southern by a score of 63-43 last Saturday at Kimmel Arena. Kai Carter finished with a game-high 20 points, while Nadiria Evans added 17, and Jordaynia Ivie chipped in 12 points to fuel the win. With the victory, Asheville closed out its regular season record at 8-21 overall and 3-15 in Big South action.
Evans adds another accolade /nears another – Evans joined an exclusive club in Asheville women's basketball history on Saturday. She became the fourth player ever to score over 1,500 points and grab over 500 rebounds joining Shelia Ford, Kim Duncan, and Vicki Giffin. Furthermore, Evans needs to score just five more points to break the program's single-season scoring record during the Division I era. Evans, who has 502 points currently, would break Emily Hill's record of 506 points set back in the 1997-98 season.
Big South Tournament History – Making its first appearance in the event back in 1987, UNC Asheville has a long and storied history in the Big South Tournament. The Bulldogs have captured three tournament championships in their history (2007, 2016, 2017) and reached the championship game on three other occasions (1998, 2005, 2018). Furthermore, Asheville has recently seen a great deal of success in the event as it has won at least one game in the tournament in seven of the last eight years, with the lone exception being last season when Longwood upended Bulldogs 83-69 in the quarterfinals.
About North Carolina A&T – The Aggies, which drew the No. 6 seed for the tournament, bring a 14-14 overall record and an 11-7 mark in Big South play with it to Charlotte. A&T is a balanced team with three players averaging better than 10 points per game in 2021-22. Leading this charge has been Chanin Scott, who is the Aggies' leading scorer (14.3 PPG) and their top rebounder (6.9 RPG).
Series Rewind vs. A&T – Asheville and North Carolina A&T have met just nine times over the years, with the latter winning five of the nine matchups. One of those Aggie victories came earlier this season when they outlasted the Bulldogs, 75-68, at Kimmel Arena.
How to Follow – Even if you can't make it to Charlotte, there are many ways to follow along with Tuesday's game. In addition to the aforementioned ESPN+ broadcast, there will also be live stats or tune to Rewind 100.3 to hear the radio call from Mike Gore.
