ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's tennis team continues its 2022 season on Sunday, hosting South Carolina State at 2:00 p.m.
Strong Start
Asheville has looked sharp in the early part of the season, going 6-1. The 6-1 start is the program's best since the 2018-19 team began 10-0. Jon Brann Reid has gone 5-2 at the No. 1 flight, while Leo Bierbaum is a perfect 5-0 at the No. 2 position. The duo has teamed up to go 5-0 at No. 1 doubles and each has already garnered a Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week award.
A look at South Carolina State
South Carolina State has played just three matches this season, going 2-1 with shutout wins over The Citadel and USC Sumter. Like Asheville, South Carolina State came up short against North Florida, dropping the match 6-1.
Series History
In the last five matches, South Carolina State has the slight edge (3-2). When the teams met at the Asheville Racquet Club in 2020, the Bulldogs snapped their three-match skid in the series with a 5-2 victory.
