ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Coming off its best regular season in program history, the UNC Asheville swimming & diving team will compete at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships beginning on Wednesday at the Liberty Natatorium in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Championships, which will run through Saturday, are split into two sessions per day, the prelims and finals. Prelims each day begin at 10 a.m., while the finals will get underway at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out – The last competition that the Bulldogs had was back on January 29 when they honored their nine seniors as a part of a 'Senior Celebration' at the Justice Center Pool. To view a recap of the senior celebration, click HERE.
Undefeated Regular Season – Asheville had an impressive 2021-22 dual meet season. The Bulldogs finished a perfect 8-0 that included stellar victories over Liberty, Campbell, UNC Wilmington, and ECU. On top of the team accomplishments, Asheville student-athletes landed four CCSA Swimmer/Diver of the Week honors, was honored as the CSCAA All-America team for the 19th straight semester, and broke several program/freshman records.
Championships History – The 2022 CCSA Championships will mark the tenth time that the Bulldogs have competed at the league's showcase event. Asheville is coming off back-to-back fourth-place finishes at the 2020 and 2021 Championships. In 2021, the Bulldogs set a new program-best by scoring 1,012.50 points.
Couple more firsts – In a season that has seen plenty of firsts or new program records, the Bulldogs have a few more that they can accomplish over the next few days in Lynchburg. First, if the Bulldogs place higher than fourth place, that'll mark the highest finish for the Bulldogs at a Championship meet in its history. Another achievement the Bulldogs could notch this week might be their first conference champion in an event. Over the previous nine Championship meets, the Bulldogs have tallied 12 podium finishes, including seven in 2021.
How to Follow – All eight sessions of the CCSA Championships will be streamed. All the prelim sessions will be streamed on the Big South Network, while the finals will be on ESPN3. For those individual links, visit the CCSA Championship Central Page HERE.
