Track & Field preps for the Marshall Invitational this weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track & field teams will look to continue their stellar starts to the indoor season this weekend when they compete at the Marshall Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The action will get underway at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with the men's and women's high jump before resuming at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with the women's long jump.
Last Time Out – Asheville had a strong showing at last weekend's Buccaneer Invitational. Overall, the Bulldogs broke three indoor school records, won four events, and registered several podium finishes over the two-day meet.
Big South Honors – Earlier this week, the Big South named Solomon McDonald and Claudia Prieto as the league's Male and Female Field Athletes of the Week. It marks the first time in the program's history that the Bulldogs have swept both Field Athlete of the Week awards during the indoor season.
Rewriting the Record Books – As it has throughout the 2021-22 indoor season, the Bulldogs broke a few indoor school records last weekend in Johnson City. Solomon McDonald (shot put – 18.28-meters), Raina Jackson (shot put – 13.01-meters), and Adam Hessler (mile run – 4:13.37) all etched their names in the program's record book. Asheville has broken at least one indoor school record in every meet this season.
One Last Meet – Asheville's trip to West Virginia this weekend will mark the team's last competition before the 2022 Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Championships will occur on February 24-25 in Winston-Salem, N.C. For more information on the Championships, click HERE.
Note from Coach – "The Marshall meet represents our last competition prior to the Big South Championships," said Head Coach Joel Williams. "Most of those competing will be doing the events they are likely to do at the conference meet. We'll have the majority of our team competing, and we've begun to taper some aspects of the training program with the intention of freshening/sharpening up our performances over the final stretch of the indoor season."
