CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The Big South Conference announced Wednesday that UNC Asheville student-athletes Solomon McDonald and Claudia Prieto were named the conference's Field Athletes of the Week for competitions held on February 4-6.

"Both Claudia and Solomon continue to excel due to their dedication, attention to detail and talent," said Head Coach Joel Williams. "The quote about "excellence being a habit" applies to both of them. Also, credit to their outstanding Coaches-Kim Cannon and Lilli Popovich (Solomon's coaches) and J.P. Kimbrough, who coaches Claudia."

McDonald, who was also named the league's Field Athlete of the Week back on December 8, is coming off a meet where he set new personal bests in both the shot put (18.28-meters) and weight throw (16.46-meters) at last weekend's Buccaneer Invitational. His toss in the shot put broke the school's indoor record that he set in December. Furthermore, the 18.28m mark in the shot put ranks second among Big South athletes in 2021-22 behind only High Point's Chris Van Niekerk (18.88-meters).

Prieto, meanwhile, paced the field in both the long jump (5.88-meters) and triple jump (12.09-meters) at the Buccaneer Invitational. This weekly honor is the third of Prieto's career but her first during an indoor campaign. Neither of these marks were personal-bests for Prieto, but they both rank among the top five marks among Big South competitors during this indoor season.

McDonald, Prieto, and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend when they compete at the Marshall Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
