Volleyball closes out its home schedule by hosting Charleston Southern and Presbyterian

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team will close out its home schedule this weekend by hosting Charleston Southern on Friday and Presbyterian on Saturday at the Justice Center. Friday's match will begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's is set to get underway at 2 p.m. with both contests airing on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville tallied a 3-0 victory over USC Upstate last Friday at the Justice Center. With the win, the Bulldogs are now 4-18 overall and 1-11 in Big South play.
Digs, Digs, Digs – Junior Giulia Rodrigues continues to be one of the top liberos in the Big South. In two matches last week, she totaled 38 digs in six sets of play. Entering this weekend's play, Rodrigues ranks fourth in the conference averaging 4.45 digs per set.
Freshman finishing with a flourish – In the win over USC Upstate, freshman Avery Loeback had one of her best performances of the season. She totaled 10 kills with no attack errors on 19 attempts for a .526 hitting percentage. With her outing on Friday, Loeback now ranks third on the Bulldogs with 110 kills.
Salute to the Senior – Asheville will honor its lone senior prior to Saturday's match vs. Presbyterian, Nina Finderle. She has totaled 137 kills, 135 total blocks, and scored 216.5 points in her two seasons with the program. In a match vs. Charleston Southern earlier this season, Nina posted a .667 hitting percentage which was the second-highest a Bulldog has ever had in a five-set match.
About the Opponents – Charleston Southern will come to Asheville sporting an overall record of 12-14 and 5-7 in Big South play. The Buccaneers lead all Big South teams in kills, assists, digs and total attacks. Individually, the Buccaneers are led by Peyton Thompson, who ranks 14th nationally in points scored with 428.0.
Presbyterian, meanwhile, has a record of 7-17 overall and 3-9 in Big South play. Rylee Moorhead leads the way for the Blue Hose averaging 2.76 kills per set and has totaled 34 aces.
Series Rewind vs. the Opponents – Asheville holds the edge in the all-time series against the Buccaneers, 42-19. CSU, however, have won the last four matches, including a 3-2 win in Charleston earlier this season.
As for the series vs. Presbyterian, Asheville is 20-13 against the Blue Hose. PC picked up a four-set win over the Bulldogs earlier this season.
