Radford rallies to knock off the Bulldogs, 2-1

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's soccer team led at halftime of its match Saturday against Radford at Greenwood Field. However, the Highlanders rallied with two second half goals to upend the Bulldogs, 2-1. With the loss, Asheville is now 3-7-3 overall and 1-3-1 in Big South play.
The beginning of Saturday's match was filled with early chances for Asheville. Radford, however, withstood the flurry of offensive chances to keep the match scoreless.
Asheville would eventually break through in the 31st minute as Daysha Chaney intercepted a pass and unleashed a laser shot to beat Radford's goalkeeper and give the Bulldogs the first lead of the contest, 1-0. The goal was Chaney's third of the season and her first since August 21 against VMI.
Chaney's goal would stand up until the 51st minute. Radford was awarded a free kick thanks to a foul and Helena Wilson drilled a shot to tie the score at 1-1.
With the score once again tied, both teams had chances to net their second goal of the day. Radford proved to be the team to do so as some good passing from the Highlanders led to Wilson's second goal on the afternoon to give her team the 2-1 lead in the 71st minute.
Asheville had a few chances to tie the score again in the final minutes as freshmen Solveig Schlitter and Azalea Mihailovich both tallied shot attempts. Unfortunately, neither of those tries were on target and Saturday's match went to the Highlanders, 2-1.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday when they make the short trip to Spartanburg, South Carolina to take on USC Upstate. Kickoff for that tilt is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
