Volleyball returns home to host Gardner-Webb and USC Upstate

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team will be back in action this week when it hosts Gardner-Webb on Thursday and USC Upstate on Friday at the Justice Center. The first serve for each match is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
Last Time Out – Asheville dropped a 3-0 decision on the road at Winthrop (25-18, 25-9, 25-16) last Saturday. With the loss, the Bulldogs are now 3-17 overall and 0-10 in Big South action.
Lexy has an efficient outing – Senior Lexy Cole had an efficient performance in a pair of matches against Winthrop and Radford last week. Cole had 11 kills with one error on 28 attacks for a .357 hitting percentage
Guilia in top 10 in digs – Giulia Rodrigues continues to be one of the Big South's top liberos. Rodrigues is averaging 4.29 digs per set, which ranks fourth in the conference. She tallied her fourth 20-plus dig outing last Friday at Radford.
About the Opponents – Gardner-Webb enters this week's action with an overall record of 6-16 and 4-6 in Big South play. A player to watch for the Runnin' Bulldogs is Morgan Hornaday as she ranks third in the league with 621 assists.
USC Upstate, meanwhile, has a record of 6-17 overall and 3-7 in Big South play so far in 2022. Four of Upstate's four wins have come on the road this season with the last coming at Charleston Southern on October 7. Individually, a player to watch for the Spartans is Ady O'Grady, who ranks third in the Big South averaging 1.00 blocks per set.
Series Rewind vs. Opponents – Asheville and Gardner-Webb have met a total of 40 times over the years. The Bulldogs have won 28 of the 40 matches, including both meetings last season. However, Gardner-Webb outlasted Asheville in three sets earlier this season in Boiling Springs.
