Men’s Tennis opens up season with sweep over Montreat

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team opened up its Spring season on Tuesday afternoon, registering a sweep of Montreat College at the Asheville Racquet Club.
Jon Brann Reid and Leo Bierbaum picked up where they left off last spring, cruising to a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 singles flight, while Harry Thursfield and Quinn Fender topped their opponents 6-4.
In singles action, Reid topped Montreat's Moretti 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 flight, while Bierbaum took the first set 6-1, closing out the second set on a 7-6 (3-0 tiebreak) to earn the point at the No. 2 flight. At the No. 3 spot, Thursfield downed his opponent in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, while Sirawit Daosaengsawang edged out his opponent 7-6, 6-3. Quinn Fender took care of business in two sets at the No. 5 flight and Bruno Serra capped off the clean start to the season with a three-set victory over Montreat's Sanchez.
The Bulldogs return to action this Saturday, hosting North Carolina Central at 3:30 p.m.
