Men's tennis opens Spring Season Tuesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's tennis team begins its spring campaign on Tuesday, hosting Montreat College at 12:30 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club.
Asheville looks to repeat what was arguably its best season in program history this last spring, going 5-0 in Big South play and earning the No. 1 overall seed in the Big South Championship. Despite dropping its semifinal match to tournament-champion Presbyterian, Tom Hand was named Big South Coach of the Year, with Jon Brann Reid earning Freshman of the Year and Charlie Morkel being named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Bulldogs totaled three First Team All-Conference Singles and one Second Team All-Conference Singles member while Jon Brann Reid and Charlie Morkel as well as Harry Thursfield and Leo Bierbaum garnered Second Team All-Conference Doubles recognition.
Asheville will no longer have the services of Charlie Morkel, Oli Nolan and Finlay Ray McFadyen due to graduation, but returns seven letterwinners to its roster, including Bierbaum and Reid, who combined to go 21-4 in singles action last season.
