ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After four days off, the UNC Asheville men's soccer team returns to the field on Tuesday night, traveling to Georgia State for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against the Panthers.
A short Sample
The Bulldogs have played just three matches so far this season, winning their opener against Northern Kentucky (3-2) before a pair of road losses at N.C. State and Belmont. Sophomore Conor Behan and freshman Jarron James have been responsible for the pair of goals, claiming Big South Player and Freshman of the Week. Leon Musial has been solid in net, totaling 10 saves. Musial picked up three at Belmont on Thursday, as Asheville battled but fell just short after a deflected ball gave the Bruins the only goal of the contest.
Scouting the Panthers
Georgia State is off to a strong start this season, playing just three games but grabbing victories over Mercer (1-0) and at USC Upstate (2-1). The Panthers went 9-2-2 in 2020, falling in the Sun Belt Championship in penalty kicks. Georgia State has gotten goals from four different players this season while Gunther Rackenburg has played every minute in net. Matthew Fearnley, who had five goals and an assist last season, is the Panthers' leading returning goal scorer, burying what would ultimately be the game winner against USC Upstate.
Series History
Georgia State leads the all-time series 10-5-1, going 5-4 in Atlanta. The two sides last met in Asheville in 2019, battling to a 2-2 draw. The Bulldogs last win in the series was in 1997 in Atlanta (2-1).
